Every day you have an infinite number of meals, and a finite amount of space in your stomach. That’s not to mention the fact that one of the best ways to experience Italy is to get to know its people. And what better way to break the ice than to actually be staying at someone’s own farm?
It is well know that visiting Italy is that one time you need to leave your diet at home. One of the best ways to get the true taste of italian cuisine is directly from locals, who are passionate about cooking while sharing a slice of their culture with you.
The next few days we visited one of their weekly markets, where farmers sell fresh local products. Vegetables, seafood, cheese or fruit, every Tuesday this market is open. At a fair price you can buy mozzarella di buffala, olives, fresh fish or olive oil.
We even visited a local farm where We could pick some fresh vegetables from the garden, and we saw how different local products are prepared.
Campagna gives you the opportunity to taste and buy products directly from local farmers. The agriturismi offer a very personal introduction to the rural area, allowing you to experience the process of growing food.
An Italian agriturismo will usually serve guests food that was prepared from raw materials produced on the farm or from other local farmers. Some will allow the guests to participate in the activities surrounding the farm, such as picking the vegetables or milking the cows.
